Introduction

New Mills Business Network began in October 2006 as an initiative developed by New Mills School Business and Enterprise College. The aim was to enhance the school specialism in Business and Enterprise by establishing more connections with the local business community and developing relationships between the local community and the school. The initiative has been highly successful and the group now has more than 60 business connections within the database.

Networking at the Group

Meetings

The meetings are monthly and currently we aim for the third Tuesday in each month. The meetings start at 0730am and finish around 0900am. Bacon/egg sandwiches, tea/coffee is available throughout the meeting.

There is plenty of opportunity for networking and developing new contacts and there is a presentation by a guest speaker which tends to last 20 minutes or so. Everyone has the opportunity to introduce themselves, who they are and what they do – a mini commercial!

"Want a website, but no idea how to do it?"

Many students at New Mills School are very confident at designing websites. They really want to be able to develop their skills in website design and also learn how to communicate with business people and work to a business brief. If you haven't got a website or would like a fresh site, then please contact Carol Sumner on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will then assign a team of students from our own web design business to come and find out what you are looking for. If we can help the students will design the website for you. If you would like to then take it over, we will show you how you can do that. It is a great experience for our students and also will provide you with a presence on the web. The whole service is entirely free.

Opportunities:

New Mills Business Network is supported by New Mills School Business & Enterprise College and as such offers many opportunities:

  • The school is able to help you develop directories, websites, provide students for work experience or work projects such as market research.
  • The school produces a monthly Newsletter which is sent home to all parents. We are happy to advertise your business in the Newsletter for a small fee.
  • All of those businesses who support the school have the opportunity to be included in a Powerpoint display which runs continuously in the school Reception area.
  • Do you have any news for our website? We would like to include your profile in the website directory so please send us any information you would like to be displayed and available to others. If you have any forthcoming events/promotions/news etc we would be only too pleased to include it on the website.
