Fair Trade @ New Mills SchoolThe Fair Trade Team was set up four years ago to raise awareness of Fair Trade issues. We started with a small group of enthusiastic year 7 students and set up a tuck shop selling Fair Trade goods to the students at break. Since then, the team has expanded to include students from successive years, whilst the older members are still available for advice and support. We have taken workshops and presentations out into the community to local primary schools and have a stall each year at the One World Festival in High Lea Park. Events in school have included presentations in assembly, stalls selling goods at evening events and the Fair Trade Fashion Show, which raised over £500!
A regular event this year has been the Gingerbread Event. Students in our Food Technology department kindly made Gingerbread Men and Fairtrade Flapjacks ready to be decorated at break time.
This year's One World Festival is on June 20th and we will be there with Peak Plants and the Kenya Committee. Last year's event was a huge success, despite the rain, and we hope to improve on it this year with a tombola, 'Where in the World?' quiz and chocolate tasting.
Our Mission StatementTo raise awareness of Fair Trade issues amongst our students and the wider community.
Business PlanWe are a not-for-profit organisation. Our main aim is to raise awareness of Fair Trade, but any monies raised are used to help promote the Fair Trade message and support the Kenya Committee.
