About the New Mills Web
For those businesses without their own website, it offers a great opportunity to extend their marketing to a web searching audience through both promotional news type articles and a Business Directory Listing. For those businesses that already have their own website, it offers another opportunity to be found by their audience and adding an inbound link to their own more extensive website, with the added option for having news style articles published.
The site is being developed to also help New Mills Business and Enterprise School further develop their links with locally based businesses. Local businesses are being offered the opportunity to have New Mills School students develop a Business Listing for them, including some Search Engine Optimisation for keyword phrases, and some news type promotional articles about their business or its current activities. Further than articles and listings on this site, the New Mills Business and Enterprise School are able to offer some local businesses the chance to have their own websites developed for them by school students if it can be incorporated into their project work.
This should prove beneficial for both businesses and school students alike. Over the longer term it should prove beneficial in developing closer links between locally based businesses and the local community more generally, facilitated by New Mills Business and Enterprise School, and may even result in more suitable work placements by local students in local business enterprises.
The site is being developed, hosted, and managed by Simon Belt of Simply Better IT as a working test bed for getting some practical experience of configuring the free Open Source Software Joomla! 1.5 and the various Plugin components available for use with it. Joomla! 1.5 is a highly configurable and extensible Content Management System based around a MySQL database with PHP based templates used to access and represent the data stored within it. The structure allows a workflow system to be developed to facilitate collaborative work on a single website with differeing access rights granted to the different roles involved. For more information on technology support please contact Simon Belt directly.
